A Picture Book, Homework Policy, and Freebie!

Have you seen this book? It's about a girl named Beatrice, a nine-year-old girl, who has never made a mistake. She never forgets her math homework!  In fact, Beatrice holds the record of perfection in her hometown, where she is known as The Girl Who Never Makes Mistakes. Life for Beatrice is sailing along pretty smoothly until she does the unthinkable–she makes her first mistake. I plan to use this book during the first week of school. You know you always have a student like this in your classroom. I know you also have students just the opposite of this, too. I think it's important to have policies in place for both types of students.
I believe in giving kids a second chance, so I've created these Chance Cards. Each student will get one of these every nine weeks because we ALL make mistakes. These are not a homework pass but simply a day late card. After reading the book, I will go over my homework policy and give each student a card. This will also help eliminate the no homework excuses. No excuses will be excepted, even good ones. Click on the picture for your free copy. I print these on peach paper (like the Monopoly cards).
I can't wait to show you my classroom theme. It is almost ready, and I will post pics when it's done. Talk to you soon!

  4. I really like that there is a book to go along with this life skill! I give my kids a "Get out of jail free" pass. It works similarly to yours. They may use it to buy an extra day to do/turn in homework, get a behavior mark forgiven (depending upon the behavior, of course), etc. Now I can use these Chance cards too! Thanks for sharing!!

    1. It so funny you have a "Get out of jail free" cards because I have "Get out of Redo free" cards. (My students have to redo do missed math problems, so they love those cards:)I also use Homeworkopoly so it all flows together.
